Transplant/Hepatology Fellowship Program

History

The Transplant/Hepatology Fellowship Program is designed to provide comprehensive training in all aspects of advance Hepatology and Liver transplantation which has just recently been structured around the ACGME requirements for the newly recognized subspecialty. Our Gastroenterology Fellowship Program has been in existence since 1964 and has trained over 150 individuals; the Transplant Hepatology Program will begin July 1, 2007 and is approved to train one individual per year. This program is for graduates of a three year Gastroenterology fellowship program that have a special interest in pursuing a career in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation.


Duration

The Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Program is one year in length. Following three years of training in general GI.


Prerequisite Training/Selection Criteria

Candidates for this position must have completed 3-years of general GI fellowship training under the guidelines published by the ACGME and be board certified.


Goals and objectives for Training

To train and foster the development of future leaders in advanced Hepatology and Liver Transplantation.

To train future generations of hepatologists who will not only be skilled in the procedural aspects of the specialty but also have a strong base in the cognitive aspects of advance Hepatology and Liver Transplantation.
